Michael Fasusi's consistency earns praise from Brent Venables

The Oklahoma Sooners pulled off one of the biggest wins in the 2025 recruiting class by landing five-star offensive tackle Michael Fasusi. He ranked as the No. 8 overall prospect and the No. 1 ranked at his position. Oklahoma beat out the Texas Longhorns, among others.

Fasusi made an immediate impact in 2025. Fasusi played in 11 games, making 10 starts as a true freshman. He played 676 snaps, according to PFF and allowed just four sacks on 395 pass-blocking snaps last season. He was named a true freshman All-American by On3. Fasusi is expected to be a major player on the offensive line again this season, with an upside to being a future first-round NFL draft pick.

Head coach Brent Venables told News 9's Toby Rowland what makes Fasusi so special.

"Love Mike," Venables said via Oklahoma's Own. "Powerful, amazing leader, tremendous humility, and uniquely consistent."

Fasusi arrive in Norman with enormous expectations after ranking as the No. 8 overall prospect in the 2025 recruiting class. He quickly showed why the Sooners valued him so highly. Fasusi earned a starting role as a true freshman and became one of the most important pieces of Oklahoma's offensive line.

His combination of power, consistency and pass-blocking ability gives the Sooners a strong foundation up front. Venables' comments also highlight that Fasusi's value goes beyond his physical ability. His leadership and humility have made an impression on the Oklahoma coaching staff despite being just one season into his college career.

Fasusi's development could be one of the most important storylines for Oklahoma's offense in 2026. The Sooners return a more experienced offensive line, and having a player with Fasusi's upside anchoring the unit could help quarterback John Mateer and the offense take another step forward.

If Fasusi continues developing at his current pace, the five-star recruit could eventually become one of the premier offensive tackles in college football. His physical tools, early production and the confidence Oklahoma has in him make him a legitimate potential first-round NFL draft prospect.
