Top commits early on in the 2028 recruiting cycle

If you haven’t been following along with recruiting this year and are looking for the top senior prospects that are still uncommitted, you’ll be scrolling for a while. Almost all of the top 400 recruits in the 2027 cycle — according to the Rivals Industry Ranking — are committed, as of Aug. 25.

The cycle has moved at warp speed this year as blue-chippers claimed their spots in their respective classes quickly. As a result, attention for some has already turned toward the class of 2028. In turn, some top juniors are now taking their names off the board in speedy fashion.

Orange Lutheran (Calif.) four-star offensive tackle Austin Attalah became the latest to do just that, announcing his commitment to Texas Tech on Tuesday afternoon. He’s the No. 21 overall prospect in the cycle.

Following Attalah’s decision, there are already 13 committed top-100 prospects in the 2028 cycle. That’s a notable chunk of elite juniors who aren’t wasting time on the recruiting front despite having two full years of high school football to play.

Many of the biggest dominoes to fall have, unsurprisingly, been at the quarterback position. Six of those 13 commits are passers, including a pair of five-stars in Jayden Wade and Christopher Vargas. Rivals breaks down the early top commits in the 2028 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking:

5-star WR Jett Harrison — Ohio State

Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 4 NATL. (No. 2 WR)
School:St. Joseph’s Prep (Pa.)
Committed Since: July 1

Scouting Summary: “Dominant wide receiver prospect with an elite combination of ball skills and route-running ability as an underclassman prospect. Added size and is listed around 6-foot-1, 175 pounds. Sets the pace in what looks to be a very strong wide receiver cycle nationally in 2028. Has a large catch radius, coming down with ridiculous catches on a regular basis. High-points and tracks the football at a high level.

…A polished route-runner with the ability to separate with his change of direction. Exploded as a sophomore, hauling in 15 touchdown passes, including a four touchdown outing against national power St. Frances Academy. Comes from an NFL lineage, with his father Marvin Harrison Sr. being a NFL Hall-of-Famer and his older brother Marvin Harrison Jr. being a top five pick.” — Charles Power, Rivals Director of Scouting and Rankings

5-star QB Jayden Wade — Georgia

Scouting Summary: “Physically-gifted quarterback prospect with a high-end combination of arm strength and athleticism. Measured in at around 6-foot-3.5, 195 pounds with 10-inch hands prior to his junior season, having added good mass to his frame over the past year. A combine standout who has been timed in the 4.4-second range in the 40-yard dash. Started at quarterback at power IMG Academy as a sophomore after serving as a backup as a freshman. Has a tight, quick throwing motion and shows the ability to throw with palpable velocity.

…Primarily worked as a distributor for IMG’s talented receiving corps, throwing a high percentage of RPO’s as a sophomore. Completed 73 of 119 passes for 1,376 yards and 20 touchdowns against two interceptions as a sophomore. Shows flashes of his immense physical ability but needs more quality in-game reps as a passer, as he’s relatively less experienced than most of his highly-ranked peers at this stage. Older for the cycle and will turn 18 years-old in October of his junior season.” — Power

Scouting Summary: “Gifted arm talent who looks like one of the purest passers early on in the 2028 cycle. Measured in at around 6-foot-4, 175 pounds with 9.5-inch hands prior to his sophomore season. Has a loose, live arm. Able to generate easy velocity while locating his passes into small windows with accuracy and touch. Musters RPM’s on his passes despite his lack of mass at this stage. Shows encouraging signs of passing nuance early.

…Helped his team to a state title appearance as a sophomore, completing 138 of 207 passes (66.7%) for 2,038 yards and 24 touchdowns against 3 interceptions. Primarily plays as a dropback passer at the high school level. A solid mover, but will benefit from more playmaking opportunities. A bit older for the cycle, and will turn 18 in April before his senior season.” — Power

4-star EDGE Darieon Prescott — Notre Dame

Prescott on his commitment: “What made Notre Dame right for me was their culture,” he told Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong. “I truly love their environment and play style. Their coaching staff is amazing and it shows off in their playmaking ability.”

“Something my coach always told me and my team to do is set the standard and as me committing early in setting the standard for my fellow 2028 class not trying to pressure but just show if it feels right and you follow your heart you should take that leap.”

4-star OT Austin Attalah — Texas Tech

Attalah on his commitment: “I wasn’t really planning to commit this early,” he told Rivals Greg Biggins. “Ever since Texas Tech got involved and I took my visit, I just knew that’s where I wanted to be. This wasn’t a spur of the moment of the decision, I’ve been feeling this way for at least the last two months.”

“I was getting tired of the recruiting process, and Texas Tech had everything I wanted. I’ve always loved the state of Texas, and I have a lot of family there. My mom and I go back every summer, and I have family not far from Lubbock, so there’s already a strong support system in place.”

4-star QB Donald Tabron II — Texas A&M

Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 28 NATL. (No. 3 QB)
School:Cass Tech (Mich.)
Committed Since: Aug. 15

Scouting Summary: “When you talk about him as a passer, he has two things that really stick out. The way he stands in the pocket is really calm. He has great demeanor, he always plays under control in the pocket. He rarely looks phased when he’s in the pocket. Even with blitzers and pass rushers coming at him, he slides very comfortably. He navigates the pocket, he throws his passes very on time and in rhythm, and he’s very poised. The second thing I would say is his ability to throw with touch.

…He does an amazing job of not only layering the ball over the middle of the field. He’s able to throw those layered balls, those touch passes over linebackers in the intermediate level of the game. Whyce on his commitment: “They are one of the best in the world at developing,” Whyce told Rivals. “I feel as if it is like it really is with any defensive line recruit that he has offered,” he said of his relationship with Larry Johnson. “We will get a chance to really improve our relationship when I get older and get on campus.”

4-star OT Kweli Fielder — Miami

Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 45 NATL. (No. 6 OT)
School:Carrollton (Ga.)
Committed Since: June 24

Fielder on his commitment: “Miami felt like home since going down twice in June. It was a special moment for my mom and I. The relationships I built with the coaches, the culture and the vision they have for me made it the right choice,” he told Rivals. “I believe Miami gives me the best opportunity to develop as a player and person while competing at the highest level.”

4-star QB Kingston Preyear — Alabama

Preyear on his commitment: “They can develop the crap out of a quarterback,” he told Rivals’ Chad Simmons. “Then you’ve got the rich tradition of winning. They’ve been winning since I was a kid growing up an Alabama fan. Playing for Alabama is every kid’s dream. It all came down to development and the relationships with the coaches … It means the world. I’m truly blessed and highly favored by God to even have the opportunity to play for and commit to the school I grew up watching. It was my dream school.”

4-star QB Neimann Lawrence — Texas

Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 71 NATL. (No. 6 QB)
School:American Heritage (Fla.)
Committed Since: June 25

Lawrence on his commitment: “The development was the biggest thing,” he told Rivals. “The quarterback history they have and the level of coaching at Texas really stood out. The ultimate goal is the next level, and I wanted to put myself in the best position to get there … We built great relationships with a lot of schools. But Texas gave me the best situation for my family and the best fit for me as a player. I can see myself succeeding there and playing at the highest level.”
