Elite 2028 OT Austin Attalah commits to Texas Tech and breaks down his decision

Orange Lutheran (Calif.) junior offensive lineman Austin Attalah has committed to Texas Tech and broke down why he chose the Red Raiders.

The standout tackle narrowed his list to a final three that also included  Texas and USC but the Red Raiders were able to land the talented tackle prospect.

“When I visited Tech back in June, I knew that’s where I wanted to be,” Attalah said. “I spent two days on campus and really liked it a lot. I loved the coaching staff and the commitment to the football program is very strong.

“It’s a program that is definitely going in the right direction, and I’m excited to be a part of that. The staff recruited me hard and made me feel like I was a big priority for them, and that meant a lot to me.”

The Red Raiders had to rally to win this race. Originally, Texas was a heavy leader back in January before Attalah’s recruitment really blew up. He told us that not only were the Longhorns his dream school, but added if they were to offer, he would commit on the spot.

The offer did come in March, but by that time, Attalah had decided to play out the process, take a handful of unofficial visits and take his time with his recruitment.

“I wasn’t really planning to commit this early,” Attalah said. “Ever since Texas Tech got involved and I took my visit, I just knew that’s where I wanted to be. This wasn’t a spur of the moment of the decision, I’ve been feeling this way for at least the last two months.

“I was getting tired of the recruiting process, and Texas Tech had everything I wanted. I’ve always loved the state of Texas, and I have a lot of family there. My mom and I go back every summer, and I have family not far from Lubbock, so there’s already a strong support system in place.”

Red Raider offensive line coach Clay McGuire was the lead recruiter with Attalah.

“I have a great relationship with Coach McGuire,” Attalah said. “He’s a great coach, and I’m very comfortable with him. I know he can develop me and help get me to the highest level.

“As I said, the whole staff was great with us. Everyone was welcoming, and I loved the campus and the football facilities too. The strength program is elite, and that’s a big thing I was looking for too. I’m very into strength training; it’s a huge part of my routine, and Tech checks off that box as well. It was just the best all-around fit, and I’m very happy with my decision.”

Attalah is one of the top prospects in the ’28 class and is currently rated No. 21 nationally in the Rivals Industry Ranking, an equally weighted average that utilizes all three major recruiting services and the No. 2 offensive tackle as well. 

He made the move from San Bernardino (Calif.) Cajon to Orange Lutheran last month. The Lancers play in the rugged Trinity League, the toughest league in the state and one of the toughest in the country.

“I wanted to compete against the best competition to prepare myself for college,” Attalah said. “I have high goals set for myself, and I’m excited for this opportunity.”
