The LSU Tigers football program continues to be the center of attention in the college football world.

Eight months after Lane Kiffin traded Oxford for Baton Rouge, he's revaming the roster with a few former NFL players. We're living in wild times when college coaches are retaining talent who get cut by teams around the league.

Nevertheless, Kiffin sees advantages in the current landscape and is trying to compete within the Wild West rules. He appeared on Tuesday's episode of the Pat McAfee Show to talk about the state of college football ahead of the 2026 season.

One of Kiffin's biggest transfers from the NFL was former Ole Miss tight end Dae'Quan Wright, who chose LSU over other schools who offered him.

"There's all kinds of schools that recruited him," Kiffin said. "Ask Drew Rosenhaus, his agent, how many schools called and offered him a lot including in our conference and his previous school. But he chose us."

Kiffin went on to explain his stance on NFL players returning to college.

"There's a lot of parts of this I don't like, Kiffin admitted. "I don't think professionals should come back to college sports and college football. But in this instance, these are not players who have gone on to play seasons professionally or randomly filed an injunction. This is part of a specific class that was ruled wrong by the NCAA that was supposed to be 5-for-5."

While Kiffin might not like NFL players bouncing back to have another season in college football, he's not complaining when it comes to his team securing a big prospect. This started with Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia being granted extra eligibility in court before the start of last season. The trickle down effect from that ruling has now reached all of the 2022 recruits.

Kiffin also called out the SEC for their selective support of 5-for-5 players.

"I think you're going to get in an interesting situation where, as a conference, you're saying 'We're going to follow this court order but these kids that got that other court order, we're going to say, 'No, you can't.'"

LSU faces Clemson in Kiffin's debut in Baton Rouge. The prime time event next Saturday will be aired on ABC at 7:30 p.m.
