Miami football is coming off its best season in about a quarter century, and yet, the team did not even compete in the 2025 ACC Championship. Darian Mensah threw a one-yard touchdown pass to Jeremiah Hasley on fourth-and-goal, launching the Duke Blue Devils to an exhilarating title-clinching victory over Virginia last December. Now, that talented quarterback is tasked with helping the Hurricanes attain league supremacy and make another run at the national championship. And the school is paying him well to pursue those objectives. Very well.

Mensah is the highest-paid QB in the country, per On3’s Pete Nakos, coming in at $6-plus-million. Dante Moore and Trinidad Chambliss each rake in $5 million, according to the college football insider, Sam Leavitt and Josh Hoover earn $4.5 million, Demond Williams Jr. collects $4 million and Drew Mestemaker rounds out the top-seven at $3.5 million.

Miami has decided to commit itself fully to the transfer portal for its signal-caller needs, and one can only applaud the results. Cam Ward enjoyed a monster season with the Canes before becoming the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and Carson Beck helped the program return to the national championship game after leaving Georgia. Mensah has big shoes to fill, but he has already accomplished plenty.

The 6-foot-3 redshirt junior completed 66.8 percent of his passes for 3,973 yards and 34 touchdowns last season. He abandoned Duke right before the portal closed and controversially fled to its ACC foe. Darian Mensah will be among the most polarizing players in college this year, but his bank account will provide him some solace.

It is money well-spent as far as Miami football is concerned. We will see if that remains the case come January.
