Hope College football dominates Albion like never before, set for Calvin rivalry next

The Hope College football team dispatched one rival and is ready for another this week.

The Flying Dutchmen trounced Albion College 62-0 on Saturday, Nov. 1, and will host Calvin for the first time in the history of The Rivalry next week.

It is the most points Hope has ever scored against the Britons and the largest margin of victory in the history of that rivalry.

No. 16 Hope (7-1, 4-1 MIAA) was of to a quick lead in the first quarter, scoring twice in the first 5 minutes. AJ Martel had a 1-yard touchdown run, then 2 minutes later, Kal Motter had an 80-yard touchdown run.

Travis Myers capped the first-quarter scoring with a 43-yard catch from Alex Thole, who also threw TD passes to Trevor Griffiths and Jonny Rohen-Blanton. Thole was 15-for-20 passing for 268 yards.

The second half was all ground game and Trey Goike, Easton Suidinski, Tyson Williams and Noah Dunckel all scored rushing touchdowns. Hope rushed for 306 yards in the game and 359 passing yards for 665 total yards of offense. Motter rushed for 113 yards on six carries. Kaden DeHorn had five catches for 95 yards.

Hope College's Billy Sternberg and Seth Luhmann had a lot to celebrate after crushing Albion.

The Hope defense took care of the rest, allowing just 13 rushing yards and 81 yards of total offense.

Liam Danitz had seven tackles, including 3.5 for losses. Nolan Vis had two tackles for losses. Hope had 10 tackles for losses altogether, plus interceptions from Lorenzo Vitti, Austin Harvey and Jack Jacobs.

Albion dropped to 2-6 and 0-5 in the MIAA.
