Football season is nearly upon us, which means the clock is quickly ticking for Alex Afari and his eligibility for this season.

As for Mark Mitchell, while he has committed to Kentucky, there are still some hurdles to clear before it’s officially official.

The biggest remaining hurdles are the NCAA’s expected appeal of the Kentucky court ruling that granted Mitchell a fifth year, as well as the SEC’s eligibility rules.

The SEC must also determine whether Mitchell’s stint with the Denver Nuggets Summer League team, despite his camp saying he never signed a professional contract, affects his eligibility, and its intraconference transfer rules could also require a waiver since he entered the portal after the normal window.

Yesterday’s SEC statement didn’t give us much clarity on his eligibility. We’ll see what happens. The rules are being written in real time.
