Texas QB Vince Young wanted to go to FSU, but 'Noles wanted him at WR

His No. 10 jersey is retired. One of only six numbers retired by the University of Texas. He is one of the greatest players to ever wear burnt orange. But Vince Young didn't originally want to be a Longhorn. One of the revelations in the new Vince Young documentary on Netflix is the Houston native wanted to go to Florida State. But they broke his heart.

The Untold Testimony of Vince Young came out on Tuesday on the streaming giant. The film tells the ups and downs of the Longhorns legend from his perspective. From VY's bumpy beginning on the Forty Acres, to his glory at the Rose Bowl and his eventual demise in the NFL.

There are a lot of surprises and revelations in the movie. But one of the most shocking is that Young didn't originally even want to go to the University of Texas. VY grew up a fan of the Florida State Seminoles.

Vince wanted to go to Tallahassee and play for legendary coach Bobby Bowden. He admired the development of Charlie Ward. But there was one problem, FSU didn't want Young as a quarterback. The 'Noles wanted VY to convert to wide receiver.

"I really wanted to go to Florida State," Young said in the documentary. "I was a big fan of Charlie Ward. He was doing really good as a black quarterback. (High school) Coach came in, 'You got your letter from Florida State.' You know, I'm going crazy. Unwrapping that thing like it was a bag of chips. They wanted me as a wideout. I was like, 'Nah, I'm not … I don't wanna play no wideout. I wanna play quarterback. Kinda broke my heart."

Young was one of the greatest recruits in the history of the state of Texas. He was the No. 1 recruit in the nation in 2002 and is the only dual-threat quarterback in history with a perfect composite recruiting rating.

Young picked Texas over Florida State, LSU, Arkansas and Kansas State. Young was part of one of Mack Brown's best recruiting classes that included Rodrique Wright, Justin Blalock, Brian Robison, Kasey Studdard, Lyle Sendlein, David Thomas, Selvin Young, and Aaron Ross.

Longhorns fans are sure glad FSU didn't want one of the best QB high school prospects of all time at quarterback. The rest is history.
