ESPN’s Mad Dog unleashes epic rant on LSU football ahead of 2026 season

The LSU football team has been one of the most talked-about programs during the offseason.

The program poached Lane Kiffin away from Ole Miss before being super active in the transfer portal to flip the roster. Recently, the team has been involved in the Dae’Quan Wright situation after he cleared waivers on Tuesday and is expected to sign with LSU on Wednesday.

ESPN’s Chris “Mad Dog” Russo has seen all of this and is already tired of LSU football, even though the 2026 college football season starts in three days.

“Can LSU, for one in their life, lay low? I mean, let’s go get Will Wade. Let’s go out there, and we’ll figure out a way to get Kiffin out of Ole Miss. Let’s go spend a billion dollars on this. Let’s pay Brian Kelly off. Let’s give the kid No. 5 when he comes here from high school. Can LSU, for once in their life, just say, you know what? Maybe we shouldn’t be the first guinea pig to take a kid from the Browns on our team. Let somebody else do it for a change,” Russo said on “First Take.”

It felt like this rant had been building for a while, and once the Wright situation started to unfold, Russo had to let it all out.

LSU’s 2026 season

The 2026 season will be Kiffin’s first as head coach after coaching Ole Miss for six seasons. He compiled a 55-19 overall record and helped the program make the College Football Playoff last season.

His first game as LSU’s head coach will be on Sept. 5 against Clemson. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
