USA TODAY Sports predicts the Oklahoma Sooners record for 2026

Around the country, a number of outlets have high expectations for the Oklahoma Sooners. This comes on the heels of a 10-2 season and a College Football Playoff appearance in 2025. The Sooners were No. 7 in USA TODAY Sports' 1-138 rankings released earlier this week.

In their record predictions for the 2026 season, USA TODAY Sports college football analysts Paul Myerberg and Ramon Padilla predicted Oklahoma to go 10-2 once again. The duo didn't share which games Oklahoma loses, but they probably have Oklahoma losing to Texas and Georgia.

That seems right about where most prognosticators are landing with the Sooners, give or take a game or two. Given the Sooners' schedule, the floor looks like it could be 8-4. As crazy as it would sound, undefeated is on the table. The Sooners haven't gone undefeated during the regular season since 2004. That's not to say they can't. Simply that it's a long shot.

But back in the playoff is right where Oklahoma needs to be if they want to contend for a national title. 10-2 would mean the Sooners would have to win four games to win the national title. Not unprecedented. Ohio State did it back in 2024.

The Oklahoma Sooners have an opportunity to do some big things this season. Especially if they can get the running game going. That's been the focus this offseason, and by all accounts, it looks better than it did a year ago. If that turns out to be the case, the Sooners will be one of the best teams in college football.
