ESPN makes drastic change to college football telecast presentation

Fans are intimately familiar with the look and feel of an ESPN college football broadcast, but the worldwide leader has decided to ditch as aspect of its presentation that viewers have been accustomed to.

Front Office Sports (subscription required) has learned that ESPN has decided to remove its BottomLine ticker for college football games effective this season.

This decision follows the network's pattern of not featuring a BottomLine during College Football Playoff contests, as well as removing it for NBA and NHL playoff games.

“We’re always looking for ways to better serve sports fans. By removing the BottomLine during live action, we’re creating a cleaner presentation that keeps the focus where it belongs—on the field,” an ESPN spokesperson said in the statement.

The network did confirm that there would be score alerts at a designated time each quarter, and flexibility within the presentation of a game's score bug to alert viewers of a delayed kickoff or a game starting on a different ESPN network than originally scheduled.
