Eric Morris Lands Major In-State Win as Four-Star Odaefe Oruru Flips From Arkansas to Oklahoma State

Eric Morris just picked up one of his biggest recruiting wins yet at Oklahoma State. And he did it at the expense of an SEC program.

Four-star Jenks offensive lineman Odaefe Oruru flipped his commitment from Arkansas to Oklahoma State on Wednesday, giving the Cowboys another major piece for their 2027 recruiting class.

Oruru had been committed to the Razorbacks since April. Instead? He's staying home. For Morris, that's a pretty significant recruiting victory.

OSU Went and Got One of Oklahoma's Best

Oruru isn't simply an in-state prospect Oklahoma State decided to take a chance on. He's one of the state's best.

The massive 6-foot-6, 310-pound lineman plays at Jenks and is rated by 247Sports as the No. 8 prospect in Oklahoma and No. 22 interior offensive lineman nationally.

That makes him one of the highest-rated players in Oklahoma State's 2027 class. And it gives Morris another significant recruiting win inside his own state. That's important.

We spend so much time talking about the transfer portal now that traditional high school recruiting sometimes gets pushed into the background. But if Morris wants to build something sustainable in Stillwater? Keeping Oklahoma's best players in Oklahoma matters.

OSU Had Been Working on This Flip

This didn't exactly come out of nowhere. Even while Oruru remained committed to Arkansas, Oklahoma State continued pursuing him.

There was an obvious reason. OSU already had offensive line commitments from Sonny Mullen and Jake Baker, but both projected more as tackles. Oruru provides something different as a highly regarded interior offensive line prospect.

So Morris' staff identified a need. They found one of the best players in the state who could fill it. And despite his commitment to an SEC program? They kept recruiting him. Now he's a Cowboy.

There's Already a Jenks Connection in Stillwater

Oruru should also see a familiar face when he eventually arrives at Oklahoma State. Former Jenks running back KD Jones is already with the Cowboys after signing as part of Morris' first recruiting class.

Oruru blocked for Jones during Jenks' run to the Class 6A-I semifinals last season.  Now the two could eventually be reunited in Stillwater. Not a bad pipeline to establish.

Another Recruiting Win for Morris

Most of the attention surrounding Morris right now is understandably about what happens on the field.

Drew Mestemaker. Caleb Hawkins. The explosive offense. Can Oklahoma State immediately bounce back?

But recruiting is where we'll eventually find out whether Morris can build something that lasts beyond the players he brought with him from North Texas. This is exactly the type of commitment you want to see.

Four-star prospect. In-state player. Position of need. Flipped from an SEC program. That's a pretty good afternoon.

Final Thoughts

Oklahoma State isn't going to keep every elite Oklahoma prospect home. Nobody does.

But if Morris can consistently win battles like this, the Cowboys will have a strong foundation for the future.

Oruru had an SEC opportunity waiting for him at Arkansas. OSU continued recruiting him anyway. Now one of Oklahoma's top 2027 prospects is staying in-state and heading to Stillwater.

Eric Morris wanted to make recruiting Oklahoma a priority. Flipping a four-star Jenks lineman from Arkansas? That's one heck of a way to back it up.
