Snoop Dogg biopic finds its Suge Knight in ‘Nemesis’ star Tre Hale as film also casts its Tupac Shakur

After emerging as a fan favorite on the hit Netflix series, Hale now gets tasked with playing one of hip-hop’s most infamous figures.
Day by day, the Snoop Dogg biopic continues to round out its cast.
After news broke that Myles Bullock Be would be donning the White Sox hat to portray Dr. Dre in the upcoming film about the Long Beach legend, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Tre Hale, who quickly became a fan favorite from Netflix’s hit action-drama series “Nemesis,” would be taking on the role of one of the most enigmatic figures in music history: Suge Knight.
Hale is one of several actors to be added to the call sheet for the upcoming Craig Brewer-directed film. Joining Hale and Bullock as Suge and Dre are Algee Smith as Warren G, Lauren London as Snoop Dogg’s mother, Beverly Tate and “The Purge” actor Camron Jones as Tupac Shakur.
The casting of Hale as the larger-than-life figure comes as Knight is once again a topic in the current murder trial regarding the 1996 shooting death of Shakur. Knight, who co-founded Death Row Records with Dre and entrepreneur Michael “Harry O” Harris, became one of hip-hop’s most infamous figures due to his imposing presence and the mythical tales of how he handled in-house beefs with artists such as Vanilla Ice and more.
During its heyday, Death Row was considered the most popular rap label in the country, spearheaded by releases from Dre, Snoop and Shakur. The label crashed and burned in 1997, following the death of Shakur in 1996, Knight’s imprisonment for nine years and the departures of Snoop and Dre. Dre went on to found Aftermath Entertainment, and Snoop joined Master P’s No Limit Records.
Knight’s history with Dre and Snoop didn’t end at Death Row. In 2015, he was convicted of manslaughter in relation to a fatal hit-and-run outside of a promotional event for Dre’s N.W.A. biopic, “Straight Outta Compton.” Knight was sentenced to 28 years in prison for the crime.
“Snoop,” directed by Craig Brewer, is slated for release on August 6, 2027.
