Colorado vs Georgia Tech Prediction: A Fresh Start For Both

NCAAF College Football News, Photos, Stats, Scores, Schedule & Videos...

Can we get another great show from these two?

Georgia Tech got a 45-yard touchdown run from Haynes King in the final moments to break a 20-20 tie. The defense held on, and the Yellow Jackets went on to have a nine-win season, while Colorado won just three games.

It’s a fresh start for Deion Sanders’ Colorado team that all but totally turned over the personnel, at least on defense. Georgia Tech has some massive replacements to make – like King – but it could be even better.

Colorado vs Georgia Tech: Quick Hits

  • Georgia Tech ran for 320 yards on the Buffs last year, but the game was close because the Yellow Jackets were -3 in turnover margin.
  • Colorado starts the season on a five-game losing streak, allowing an average of 40 points per game over those five. Georgia Tech lost four of its last five.
  • Georgia Tech needs this a bit more with Tennessee up next. Colorado starts the season with three road games in the first four, but the home opener is against Weber State.

Why Colorado Will Win

You can say a lot of things about the Deion Sanders era at Colorado, but give him credit for always trying to improve. Last year’s team had a rough time on defense, and now around 22 of the 24 players on the defensive two-deep are brand new.

The offensive line was a mess, and here come three new starters. There’s a refresh happening here – last year was last year, and all of the talented new parts get to make their own statement.

Why Georgia Tech Will Win

Seriously, at least 35 players – closer to 40 – on the Colorado two-deep are transfers or new recruits. Colorado probably needs a few weeks of live action to get this thing figured out.

Meanwhile, Georgia Tech is patching a few holes, and overall it should be better, starting with RB Justice Haynes (Michigan), three new starters on the defensive front, and Alberto Mendoza, Fernando’s brother, taking over for King.

Colorado vs Georgia Tech Prediction, Betting Lines

Yes, Colorado is trying to throw lots and lots and lots of new players at the wall to see if they all stick, and yes, quarterback Julian Lewis has the upside to be a dynamic difference-maker with a loaded group of new receivers. However, the Achilles heel of the Buffalo program under Coach Prime still has to prove that it’s fixed – the lines.

New Georgia Tech offensive coordinator George Godsey – the team’s former quarterback – will use Haynes and the running backs more behind an offensive line that should be a strength right away. The Yellow Jacket defensive front will maul the Colorado offensive line when needed in the second half of another good game between the two.
