Mike: So how are we feeling?
Patrick: Peachy
Jarek: I’m riding the basketball and volleyball wave. Ready for football to add to the fun!
Jon: I don’t know how to feel about this one. I feel like it should be a good game. I feel like both teams are going to fight this all the way through, and it’s going to be another one-score game. I don’t see Nebraska getting run over, but I don’t see us running over them either.
Jill: It is a beautiful day in northeast Nebraska. The sun is shining and I’m going to enjoy every minute of it!
Wrigley Field
Minnesota (+3.5) at Northwestern
Patrick: Northwestern University 21 University of Minnesota 15
Mike: The Goofers can’t win on the road. Cubbies 24, Twinkies 16
Jarek: Northwestern trying to win at Wrigley again? They looked alright for 3 quarters against Michigan. I think they look even better against Minnesota for all 4 this time. Northwestern 24 Minnesota 20
Jon: Minnesota loses on the road and wins at home. It’s as simple as it gets. Nerds 24, Minnesota 14
Jill: Okay, I’ll be the contrarian and pick the Gophers. Minnesota 18 Northwestern16
Southern Cal (+9.5) at Oregon
Patrick: University of Oregon 23 University of Southern California 21
Mike: Ah, I think this one will be higher scoring than that. Quackers 38, Condoms 24
Jarek: This screams shootout to me. I know Oregon is at home, but Indiana finally burst the Autzen bubble. I think USC actually has the firepower on both sides of the ball to actually pull the upset here. I love chaos. USC 41 Oregon 38
Jon: Oregon isn’t quite as overwhelming as I expected them to be earlier in the season. USC isn’t quite as underwhelming as I expected them to be. I expect an Oregon win just because I really don’t see USC as being able to compete with the top teams in the Big Ten and Oregon is one of them. Oregon 38, USC 28
Jill: ooooh! I get to be the tie-breaker (until Andy swoops in with his predictions right before publication). Hmmm, Oregon 35 USC 27
Illinois (-7.5) at Wisconsin
Patrick: University of Illinois 38 University of Wisconsin 13
Mike: The Badgers have been playing better this month..but not good enough to beat Bert. Fightin’ Berts 31, Steenkin Badgers 16
Jarek: For some strange reason I just got this mental picture of Bielema doing the jump around for old times’ sake. The question then becomes this…what stops shaking first when the jumping stops, the stadium or Bert’s stomach? That is a coin flip for me. The game, not so much. Illinois should cruise here. Illinois 31 Wisconsin 14
Jill: I want to be the contrarian. Wisconsin has shown more signs of life lately, but no, I can’t. Illinois 28 Wiscy 14
Washington (-10.5) at UCLA
Patrick: University of Washington 28 University of California Los Angeles 13
Mike: Nico’s back for UCLA…but that’s probably not enough. Huskies 31, Bruins 17
Jarek: Washington has gained some traction in conference this year. UCLA will get Nico back, unless he still is suffering from that concussion no one seems to know about. This one will be close, but not quite the upset. Washington 27 UCLA 20
Jon: Washington’s a lot better than I expected. UCLA has one guy that really can cause damage. I don’t see much of a game here. Washington 34, ULCA 21
Jill: Here’s another one where I want to pick the underdog. No I don’t. Washington 34 UCLA 24
Nebraska (+8.5) at Penn State
Patrick: Pennsylvania State University 20 University of Nebraska 14
Mike: The Nittany Lions have six losses, and all but one were one-score losses. Take that 2021 Huskers! So these Lions are better than their record indicates. That being said, I suspect the TJ Lateef are better than Vegas thinks. My heart says Huskers 31, Nitts 27, but my head can’t get past Nitts 24, Huskers 21.
Jarek: I’m not exactly sure why this line is so steep. I know that Penn State was a playoff team a year ago and still has plenty of talent that this year was supposed to be another one. So many things have changed that I don’t see why we are such a huge underdog. I said last week that I wanted Penn State to win so we could crush their bowls hopes this week. Prove me right fellas. Nebraska 24 Penn State 21
Jon: I did a preview earlier this week where I said that Nebraska would need to score between 28 and 31 points. I expect our defense to hold Penn State to 21 to 24 points because that’s what they’ve been doing. While Nebraska is suspect against the run, I suspect that we’ll do better than everybody thinks. I expect a Nebraska victory tonight. I think special teams is going to play a very big role in that. Nebraska 28, Penn State 24
Jill: I’ll be cheering for the Huskers but I don’t think they have the firepower to get this done. I don’t expect a fourth quarter meltdown or boneheaded play to decide this. I just think the Nittany Lions will stay one step ahead. Penn State 28 Nebraska 24
