Tyler Perry’s next Netflix movie ‘Doing Life’ is coming this October

Tyler Perry’s “Doing Life” now has a Netflix release date, with the filmmaker’s latest drama set to arrive globally Oct. 2. The movie extends Perry’s busy run with the streamer, following TheGrio’s coverage of the upcoming “Why Did I Get Married Again?” and the breakout success of “Straw” on Netflix.
The film follows Anika, a struggling single mother, and a reformed ex-con who form an unexpected connection while trying to rebuild their lives, What’s on Netflix reported. Naomi Baker, known for “All American: Homecoming,” stars as Anika, while Jay Reeves, who previously appeared in Perry’s “The Six Triple Eight,” plays the former inmate.
Netflix describes the drama as a story about survival, second chances and the bond that develops between two people whose circumstances push them together.
The supporting cast includes Tamberla Perry as Cathy, Karen Obilom as Trina, Jasmine Sargent as Lisa and Danielle Moné Truitt as Denise. Cornell Young IV, who is also set to appear in Netflix’s upcoming “A Different World” sequel series, plays Donovan.
Perry wrote and directed the project and produced it alongside Angi Bones and Tony L. Strickland.
“Doing Life” adds another title to Perry’s multi-year relationship with Netflix. The filmmaker signed a first-look feature deal with the streamer in 2023 and has since delivered projects including “The Six Triple Eight,” “Straw,” “Joe’s College Road Trip” and “Madea’s Destination Wedding.”
The film also arrives less than a month after “Why Did I Get Married Again?” premieres Sept. 9, giving Perry two major Netflix movie releases within weeks of each other.
