Where 2025 Badgers who transferred are suiting up in 2026

As the University of Wisconsin football season gets under way Sept. 6 against Notre Dame, casual followers will no doubt be confronted by a series of new names on the field.

They'll also be surprised to discover many former players have moved on to other NCAA programs.

But where did they go?

Here's your primer on where a handful of 2025 Badgers are playing this season:

Billy Edwards, quarterback (North Carolina)

Edwards transferred to Wisconsin from Maryland but was injured in the season opener and was barely available the rest of 2025. After getting a medical redshirt, the 23-year-old has been named the starter for the Tar Heels under famed head coach Bill Belichick.

Trech Kekahuna, receiver (North Carolina)

Edwards will have at least one familiar target. Kekahuna caught 26 passes for 221 yards last year after an explosive freshman campaign the year before. He projects to be among the top-three receivers at UNC.

Dilin Jones, running back (LSU)

He started the first seven games last season before missing the last five with a turf-toe injury that required surgery. He ran for 300 yards and two touchdowns last year. He's emerged as the possible starting running back at LSU.

Joe Brunner, offensive line (Indiana)

The honorable-mention selection on the all-Big Ten team had made 24 straight starts at left guard, and now he has a chance to be the starter at right tackle for the defending national champion.

It's an offensive line oozing with Wisconsin presence. In addition to the Whitefish Bay native Brunner, projected starting left guard Drew Evans (back from last year) is a Fort Atkinson native who also began his career at UW. Backup right guard Sam Simpson hails from River Falls, and Brunner's backup, Austin Leibfried, comes from Mount Horeb.

Preston Zachman, safety (Indiana)

That's not where the IU connections with Wisconsin end. Zachman was injured for most of the 2025 season but started 20 games in his career at Wisconsin and played in 35 overall, and now he projects as a starter at Indiana. Among the backups at the position for the Hoosiers is Mequon's Anthony Chung.

Omillio Agard, defensive back (Virginia)

He started three games for the Badgers last year and played in all but one, finishing with 21 tackles and one interception. He projects to be among the Cavaliers' starters in the secondary, though he missed most of spring with a wrist injury.

Tucker Ashcraft, tight end (USC)

Ashcraft was limited to four games last year by injury but he was the No. 1 tight end coming into the season. He has two years of eligibility remaining. He probably won't be the starter out of the gate at USC but will get a chance to see the field.

Geimere Latimer, defensive back (West Virginia)

Wisconsin's top nickel corner last year was the older brother of Amari Latimer, a four-star running back prospect who initially committed to Wisconsin but then flipped to West Virginia on signing day. Geimere played in every game last year and finished with 28 tackles. He could be the starter at nickel for the Mountaineers.

Christian Alliegro, linebacker (Ohio State)

He was Wisconsin's leading tackler before a broken arm cut into his season, but he still finished third last year at UW with 53 tackles. Expect him to see the field with the Buckeyes.

Jake Renfro, center (Illinois)

The veteran offensive lineman was limited to four games by injury last year. In his seventh season, he'll now project as the starting center at Illinois.

Tackett Curtis, linebacker (Central Florida)

He started the first seven games of the 2025 season but saw his playing time decrease with the emergence of linebackers Mason Posa and Cooper Catalano. He played in 24 games during his time at UW, and he'll likely see the field as a linebacker at UCF.

Atticus Bertrams, punter (Central Florida)

The Australia native was Wisconsin's starting punter in 2023 and 2024 and then the first half of 2025. He'll become UCF's punter next.

Joseph Griffin, receiver (Massachusetts)

After missing the 2024 season because of NCAA transfer rules, he missed the final seven games of 2025 with an injury. He'll get a chance to showcase his skills as a key contributor to the MAC program.

Cade Yacamelli, running back (Miami of Ohio)

The speedy backup running back got 38 carries last season and finished fifth on the team in rushing in 2025. He has 571 career yards at Wisconsin.

Jamel Howard, defensive line (Sacramento State)

He was a warmly regarded recruit from the Chicago area but appeared in only one game last year. He initially committed to UConn and then moved on to Sacramento State.

Remington Moss, safety (Elon)

The cousin of former Badgers running back Brent Moss has four years of eligibility remaining.

Kyan Berry-Johnson, receiver (Sam Houston)

The former top recruit played only five games at Wisconsin and didn't have a catch. He now plays for former Wisconsin offensive coordinator Phil Longo, with former Badgers recruit Landyn Locke at quarterback.
