It’s an age-old famous question: When are we going to get to the fireworks factory?

For Marquette men’s soccer on Thursday night in DeKalb, Illinois, the answer was “almost immediately.”

The Golden Eagles beat the Huskies 4-2 in their first road match of the season, and a big reason why is Tomiwa Adewumi scoring twice in the first six minutes of the match. That’s four goals in three matches — really 186 minutes, if you think about it — for the freshman from Pennsylvania.

Now, unfortunately for Marquette, they could not hold this 2-0 lead at the six minute mark. A pair of corner kick headers by Luka Vasic pulled Northern Illinois even with the Golden Eagles at two goals each just before 25 minutes had elapsed.

The score stuck there til halftime and then a stretch past that as well. The longer it stayed there, the more it maybe wasn’t going so hot for Marquette given the not-so-hot underlying facts about their first two matches of the season.

Luckily, Adewumi decided to take a break from scoring goals and pass to Mads Konrad Horgoien to generate a goal. That was in the 65th minute, and it ultimately turned into the game winner. MU added an insurance goal in the 84th minute as Joey Buchanan got on the board on Mateo Stoka’s second assist of the game.

4-2 Marquette is your final, and Cameron Simpson made three saves in net for MU to earn the win in the first road game of the year for the Golden Eagles.

Bare bones descriptions is all I have for you, because Northern Illinois didn’t broadcast this match in any way. Are they still figuring out their media rights after sending football out of the MAC to the Mountain West and shifting everything else from the MAC to the Horizon League? Who can say? Marquette didn’t slap up an iPhone in the bleachers to cut together a highlight package either, so we’ve got no idea how any of this looked.

Probably looked pretty cool. Scoring twice in six minutes is pretty cool, even more so when it’s the same guy finding the net.

Up Next: It’s a road game, but not by much. On Monday night, Marquette will be out west at Madison for a clash with the #23 ranked Badgers. First kick on B1G+ is set for 7pm Central. The Badgers are 3-0-0 after winning 1-0 at Western Michigan on Thursday.
