Alleged NFL impersonator scams women out of $1.3 million

An NFL impersonator is being charged with multiple federal crimes after defrauding women in a multi-million dollar scam.
A man pretending to be a San Francisco 49ers player allegedly stole over $1.3 million from 26 female investors. The scheme allegedly started with a fake social media profile with Daejon Love impersonating a 49ers star.
The 35-year-old’s story has gone viral online after Love and his accomplice Taylor Jamie Chan used the scam over a four-year period. Love’s impersonation started with an Instagram page that details his fake journey from being an undrafted player signing with San Francisco.
Meanwhile, the women taken advantage of by Love mainly stem from online dating accounts. Love allegedly accepted money from the women directly or instructed them to use personal bank loans to fund his malfeasance.

NFL scammer steals $1.3 million
The detailed account of Love’s actions gets even wilder after he used AI to enhance his online persona. The pretend football player allegedly used AI Overview to give women the illusion that he played in the NFL.
“Daejon Love is a wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, and information about his position, contract and teammate texting habits is available online. He is also associated with the team in various social media content and articles,” an AI-generated post created by Love stated.
Chan, who acted as Love’s financial advisor, is only 18. Meanwhile, Love allegedly met women from California, Oregon, Washington and Idaho through dating apps.

The FBI believes that Love also used other aliases to complete his scam. Those include Jon Love, Daejon Love, Avril Lyto Love and Jordan Love.
