One of the biggest decisions Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy is going to have to make is whether or not the team will keep three or four quarterbacks on the final roster. With Aaron Rodgers and Mason Rudolph's spots secured, it all comes down to if McCarthy believes both Will Howard and Drew Allar are worth a spot on the roster or will the team cut one loose.
After the Steelers loss to the Buffalo Bills on Thursday night, McCarthy was asked if he had a quarterback room with four players worth keeping on the roster and he agreed.
"I think that's a very accurate evaluation on your part," McCarthy said. "I feel real good about the QB room…. We've got 2 veterans we can win with and 2 young guys we like."
If the Steelers choose to keep four quarterbacks, it will be at the expense of another position like wide receiver or linebacker. McCarthy's focus this preseason has been far more about 2027 than preparing the offense for the 2026 season and it shows.
