Kendrick Lamar has fulfilled a birthday wish from Romell Frazier Jr., a seven-year-old Detroit boy who lost both arms after being attacked by his family’s two pit bulls earlier this year. After learning that Lamar was Romell’s favorite rapper, the music star invited him and his family to Los Angeles for a special visit.
Romell was six years old when he was seriously injured in the March attack. The injuries resulted in both of his arms being amputated. During his recovery, Romell told reporters that Kendrick Lamar was his favorite rapper and made a simple request: that the artist come to his birthday.

The message eventually reached Lamar, as reported by Complex. On July 31, Romell’s seventh birthday, Lamar called the young fan and offered him an invitation to visit him in Los Angeles. That promise has now been kept. Romell and his family were recently flown from Detroit to Los Angeles for their first visit, where the young fan got to spend time with the rapper he had admired from afar.
Josh Kendrick, a designer and Delta Air Lines employee who spent time with Romell during the trip, shared a photo of the two of them. He further praised Lamar for helping make the experience possible.
“Thanks to @kendricklamar for his kindness and generosity, and for being Romell’s favorite rapper… Romell and his entire family were flown out to Los Angeles for their very first visit,” he wrote. He described the family as “beautiful” and thanked Lamar “for your loving heart and for making a difference in people’s lives.”
