Celebration Bowl Championship-winning head coach Chennis Berry is an alumnus of Savannah State, but it didn’t stop him from orchestrating one of the most dominant halftime performances in HBCU football history. Heading into halftime, Savannah State was down to South Carolina State 52-0. At the time of this writing, South Carolina State is currently leading 73-0 at the start of the fourth quarter.
The scoring margin staggered popular college football ex-account Reddit CFB.
“…does that say halftime,” the popular account asked rhetorically.

South Carolina State is known for its dominance in early-season matchups against Division II opponents. Last season, they beat Savannah State 49-6 during homecoming. But South Carolina State is also known for dominant victories over fellow FCS opponents, beating Michael Vick at Norfolk State University 51-20 during the Spartans’ homecoming last October and defeating Howard University 42-12 last November.
South Carolina State authored this dominant display by a mixture of savvy play through the air, and on the ground. They employed three quarterbacks on Saturday: Ronnie Robinson, Keely Watson, and Zavian Offord, who threw four touchdowns and threw for 204 yards as a tandem. Watson was responsible for three touchdowns on the day.
in the run game, Mason Pickett Harris was the big winner, rushing for 95 yards on nine carries and one touchdown, but Josh Shaw also had nine carries and rushed for 74 yards and three touchdowns. After their dominant victory, South Carolina State sets its sights on a win over a new-look Florida A&M team in the Orange Blossom Classic, which will draw national attention as it airs on ESPN during Labor Day weekend.
