After a win over Kentucky in which he set Vanderbilt football's single-game passing record, quarterback Diego Pavia advocated for five-star quarterback Jared Curtis to flip to the Commodores.
Curtis, who plays for Nashville Christian, has been publicly courted by Vanderbilt, with increasing buzz that he could flip from Georgia and become Pavia's successor.
"I think Jared is the next big thing here, and so I hope to keep him here in Nashville," Pavia said after the 45-17 win at FirstBank Stadium on Nov. 22. "I think he's a talent. When I watched him, his arm is crazy. Reminds me kind of (Patrick) Mahomes and stuff. So, yeah, I'd love to come back to watch Blaze (Berlowitz), and then watch him."
Pavia threw for a school-record 484 yards and accounted for six total touchdowns. Next week, the Commodores (9-2, 5-2 SEC) will face Tennessee (7-3, 3-3) in Knoxville, with a potential College Football Playoff berth on the line.
What Diego Pavia said about facing Tennessee
During a podcast appearance in the summer, Pavia said, "Vanderbilt's going to run Tennessee after this year."
When asked after the Kentucky game about how he felt about facing the Vols, Pavia refused to give more bulletin board material.
"I know you're trying to get me to say something," Pavia said. "I've heard a lot about the stadium. I'm super excited. Just, you know, we got everything we wanted ahead of us."
