'College GameDay' Fans Appear To Be Turning On Kirk Herbstreit

For years, Kirk Herbstreit has been a fan favorite at ESPN, leading the network’s college football coverage.

The former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback has been the face of ESPN’s college football coverage. ESPN is the king of college football coverage, at least it has been for most of this century, which made Herbstreit sitting on a throne. However, in recent years, it feels like public opinion of Herbstreit has started to change.

Some fans have begun to get annoyed by his love for Pat McAfee. Others have felt that his constant parading of his dog, Peter, is annoying. And there are some who think his coverage is biased.

Ultimately, as the 2026 college football season begins, some fans are taking to social media, to make it clear that they are frustrated with his coverage.

It’s an interesting development to watch.

“Really stinks what Herbstreit has turned into or we’ve just been fooled all along. Was such a beloved character in the early days of College GameDay but probably the past 7-8yrs, the downfall has been clear as day. Just a total (expletive). Parading ur dog around ain’t perfumin that away,” one fan wrote.

“Been a proud hater for years. He brings nothing to the table and his schtick has always annoyed me. Never understood the infatuation with him,” one fan wrote.
