Lane Kiffin always keeps his options open. People may feel inclined to call him a flip-flopper because of his well-documented history of leaving programs, but this man is meticulous in his decisions. Yes, the way he executes those decisions is often controversial and messy, but the new LSU football head coach is an opportunist first and foremost. Kiffin is not going to simply acquiesce to the SEC’s ban of NFL players and threatened penalties, until he absolutely has to.

“NEWS: Lane Kiffin tells ESPN that he’s been in ‘daily communication’ with the SEC on the potential addition of players who are in state court lawsuits,” ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported on X. “He said the rule ‘does not prohibit players from practicing at the school, it prohibits them from being added to the final 105 roster, which has to be turned in on Friday.’”
