LSU and Lane Kiffin have been taking plenty of heat for bringing back players who did not make NFL rosters back to the school. Kiffin and LSU have been the punchline of jokes, ripping the university for attempting to bring the former professionals back to school.
Now, Kiffin is firing back, addressing the media, per Fox College Football.
“I feel like my decisions should be in the best interest of the players that sit in this team room. And not for my reputation and how the decisions play in the national media or other fanbases,” Kiffin said. “I’ve never been that way, and that could be wrong and part of my story, why it is the way it is, but those players and the people that hire me know I’m constantly trying to do the best things for them.”

Currently, Kiffin has the players practicing, since the new SEC rule does not prohibit them from practicing, but does not allow them to be named as part of the final 105-man roster, which needs to be turned in on Friday. He has also been clear that he would be following the SEC eligibility rules, but first the SEC needs to decide on their path after a recent court ruling.
“All we’re waiting for is clarity this week from the SEC, which they can’t give final clarity until Thursday’s ruling,” Kiffin said. “We are waiting for final clearance and guidelines from the SEC. I have been in communication daily with the SEC to make sure we’re complying with the SEC rules.”
Until then, LSU focuses on its opening matchup against Clemson.
“We’re waiting to see Thursday. We’re focused on Clemson and spending our time on that all week. They can figure out the rest and we’ll just wait for guidance,” Kiffin added.
LSU is projected to be one of the top teams in the nation this year and contend for a spot in the College Football Playoffs. LSU opens the season against Clemson on Saturday night. They also will face Ole Miss on the road in Week 3.
