Lionel Richie has voluntarily checked himself into a St. Louis hospital’s intensive care unit out of precaution, according to TMZ.
The 77-year-old Grammy Award winner, who performed at The Muny over the weekend, underwent preliminary tests after reportedly struggling during his set and asking for a chair while performing “All Night Long.” According to TMZ, Richie’s doctors were looking into the possibility of him being dehydrated.
He’s reportedly set to be discharged on Tuesday.
Both Richie and his “Sing a Song All Night Long” tourmates Earth, Wind & Fire have experienced health issues as they’ve performed over the summer. In June, Richie had to cut a performance in St. Paul, Minnesota short after he complained of dizziness. He shortly checked himself into the hospital after leaving the venue, then later canceled two subsequent performances as doctors advised him to “rest and return to full health.”
He would return to performing again on June 30, joking with fans he “had you worried there for a minute, huh?”
In a July 4 post on Instagram, he thanked fans for their prayers and concern about his well-being.
“I’m doing well, and I’m grateful for all of you,” he said before giving props to crowds in Pittsburgh and Detroit, alluding to real memories made those nights. “let’s party all night long!”
Richie’s next scheduled performance is set for September 26 in San Francisco.

According to a Facebook page created to update fans on his condition, Paris awoke from a coma for the second time in mid-August, before later learning he would need two major surgeries.
