College Football Insider Circles One Game as Factor in Penn State's Season

There are many reasons to be excited about Penn State entering this college football season, but at the top of that list is why they have a chance to make the College Football Playoff. Right now, Penn State isn't exactly in a great spot to do so, sitting around 15th or 20th in most polls. 

However, there's also reason to believe that with Penn State's roster, with most players being from Iowa State, it might not be as good as we're hoping for. 

I am definitely a bit skeptical that Penn State is going to be an elite team because I don't know how much I trust the talent on the roster, or whether those guys can come over from Iowa State and make a massive impact. However, there's also reason to believe that because Penn State has one of the easier schedules in the country, at least in the Big Ten and Power conferences, it has a chance to make the playoffs.

"Well, going to the Big Ten, I'm looking at number 18 there, Penn State. I don't know if there's a big-time school out there that has an easier schedule with a first-year head coach, Matt Campbell. I mean, no Power Four non-conference opponents, no Ohio State, no Oregon; I think their whiteout game is going to be USC at home. They got Michigan, but that sets up for a sneaky College Football Playoff run," Heather Dinich said, per Clutch Points.

The one game there is Michigan, and obviously, taking on Washington on the road shouldn't be easy, though I do expect Penn State to take care of business against a team like Washington if things go as planned. 

Still, that game against Michigan could have a ton of implications for the rest of the year.

If Penn State were to lose another game, especially one that it should win, the committee could automatically come back and say that there's no reason to put it in the playoffs because it hasn't beaten anybody of significance throughout the year.
