Dan Lanning offers injury update on Oregon RG Dave Iuli before Week 1

For the first time this season, it’s officially game week for the Oregon Ducks. However, the team still has some injuries to handle before taking the field on Saturday afternoon against Boise State. Among the biggest ailments on the roster is right guard Dave Iuli.

Iuli has practiced during fall camp after missing the entire spring while recovering from a torn triceps he suffered in the Orange Bowl victory over Texas Tech. Offensive line coach A’lique Terry sounded optimistic about Iuli’s chances to suit up for the season opener, but head coach Dan Lanning confirmed his availability on Monday.

"He's been able to practice for us all week," Lanning said. "(I) feel comfortable that he could play."

Iuli attempted to play through the injury in the Peach Bowl against Indiana, but he left the game in the third quarter. Terry noted that Iuli was working in one-on-ones during fall camp, and he was seen in a clip posted from Oregon’s second scrimmage. Now, he’s ready to go, but where he slots in along Oregon’s offensive line will be worth watching on Saturday.

He started all 15 games last season for Oregon and allowed only 10 pressures and no sacks. Iuli was a big reason why the Ducks averaged nearly 200 rushing yards per game last season and was a finalist for the Joe Moore Award. Iuli’s return would be a huge boost to possibly the only unit on Oregon’s offense with questions heading into Week 1.

The Ducks could really use Iuli’s experience along the offensive line. Iuli and Iapani Laloulu are the only two returning starters from a year ago. Iuli could work alongside freshman Tommy Tofi, who has taken reps at both guard and tackle on the right side in camp. Either way, it sounds like Iuli should be in uniform and take the field with the Oregon offense to start the season.
