TCU football receiver Dozie Ezukanma was in the hospital for three days after allegedly being punched and kicked in the head by teammate Jacob Fields, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported on Monday, Aug. 31, after obtaining the arrest warrant affidavit.
Fields, who was dismissed from the team on Aug. 18, allegedly kicked and punched Ezukanma in the head during a locker room altercation, which resulted in brain bleeding and a concussion, per the affidavit obtained by the Star-Telegram. The affidavit stated Fields was allegedly upset due to Ezukanma outplaying him in practice.
Ezukanma stated he was unconscious after the assault and doesn't remember what happened. He also said he and Fields had been "going hard" in practice, per the documents.
The affidavit also included Fields' apology to Ezukanma in a text message.
"I made an emotional decision cause how I felt I played the last few practices," Fields wrote, per the report.
He also said: "I’ll pay every hospital bill and then some to make this right.”
Fields was booked into Tarrant County Jail on Aug. 30 for aggravated assault, per booking records. He was later released on a $50,000 bond, per the Star-Telegram.
Fields was expected to start in the Horned Frogs' secondary this season after transferring from Louisiana Tech, where he was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year in 2025. Ezukanma, a junior receiver, was expected to be a key contributor on TCU's offense this season, although he didn't play in TCU's 15-10 loss to North Carolina in Dublin, Ireland, to open the season.
TCU returns to action against Grambling State on Saturday, Sept. 12, in Week 2 of the college football season.
