Tuesday Morning ‘Dawg Bites Is Returning To College (Football)

Welcome to Tuesday, Bulldog fans! And welcome to September! You know it’s game week, I know it’s game week, and the football team is likely vaguely aware as well. Things will get into a little bit of a routine, as you plan your week around attending or absorbing by Gawd Georgia Bulldog live football in just a few days.

If you’re like me, you don’t need a link to Football Head Coach Kirby Smart’s first game week press conference of the season… you watched it live because your thirst for Georgia Bulldogs football news and updated content has reached almost unquencable levels. In hopefully something that has zero relevance to on-field success, the audio production was pretty awful. Not elite. Not worthy of a CFP ranking.

AV department aside, this was a pretty predictable presser for Coach Smart. He liked the practices and scrimmages, but knows the guys are anxious to hit someone else; he thinks the team is conditioned to this weekend’s heat because they’ve had a hot fall camp, players are getting better and showing leadership, etc. etc.

I noticed he was especially effusive in his praise of tight ends Elyiss Williams and Ethan Barbour. Not really in making spectacular catches or outrunning DBs, but in blocking and toughness. Which is completely on brand for Kirby. And if you’re a fan of 13 personnel, and I know you are, you have to believe we’re going to see plenty of it this season.

There was “news” concerning players returning to college after participating in the NFL ranks. I am honestly tired of the subject, but “reporting” says “sources” are saying 15 of the 16 SEC schools are reviewing options to stop the madness. This is from the school level, not the conference level (think refusing to play an opponent who doesn’t comply with SEC rules). Yet Lane Kiffin doubles down his double-down and let’s everyone know he has the players’ blessing. Ladies & Gentlemen – I implore you.

In other fall sports news, the Georgia Women’s Soccer team got another shutout, this time against Mercer 2-0. They have one more square-off against ranked FSU before starting conference play.

Women’s Volleyball is also off to a good start, snagging 3 victories in the Classic City Clash over Furman, George Washington, and North Florida over the weekend. A big contributor is newly minted SEC Freshmen of the Week Gigi Artiles. They’ll need to continue the high level of play as they face a tough slate against top 30 teams in the SEC/Big 10 Challenge.

I don’t usually praise the Tennessee Volunteer program much, but when I do it’s for good reason. And this is the best of reasons, because she was the best of us.
