6 prediction market picks for College Football’s Week 1

Prediction markets rarely are on target for the biggest college football games of an opening weekend, and this year’s Week 1 Labor Day slate is no exception.

Kalshi and Polymarket have priced six marquee matchups with spreads separating the favorites from the field, though a few contracts still carry more uncertainty than a final score might suggest.

Here are picks on all six games, built around where the market stands and what actually shows up on the field.

Louisville over Ole Miss

Louisville Cardinals head coach Jeff Brohm on the sidelines during the game against Kentucky.

Ole Miss sits at 70% on Kalshi and 71% on Polymarket ahead of Sunday’s opener in Nashville, and that gap looks wider than the matchup itself. Pete Golding is in his first full season as the Rebels head coach after taking over during a College Football Playoff run. A first-year head coach carrying preseason hype into a nationally televised opener is exactly the kind of spot that can produce an upset.

Louisville went 9-4 under Jeff Brohm and returns a defensive front that gives Golding’s rebuilt offensive line problems from the opening series.

Take Louisville, the points, and the outright upset in play in the Music City Kickoff.

Pick: 31-27, Louisville

SMU over Florida State

NCAA Football: Louisville at Southern Methodist

SMU Mustangs quarterback Kevin Jennings (7) runs with the ball during the game against the Louisville Cardinals.

This is one of the closer numbers of the weekend, with SMU at 61% and Florida State at 39% for Monday night’s game at Doak Campbell Stadium.

The Mustangs enter ranked 19th nationally, riding a 14-game conference win streak, but Rhett Lashlee is breaking in two new co-offensive coordinators and two new co-defensive coordinators after losing both primary play-callers this offseason.

Florida State already had a tune-up game against New Mexico State and looked decidedly unremarkable in a 34-17 win. Full home-field advantage under the lights won’t be enough in Week 1.

Lay the points for the Mustangs; SMU wins.

Pick: 28-20, SMU

Notre Dame over Wisconsin

NCAA Football: Navy at Notre Dame

Fighting Irish quarterback CJ Carr (13) looks to pass against the Navy Midshipmen during the first half at Notre Dame Stadium.

Notre Dame is priced at 92% to beat Wisconsin at Lambeau Field, and that number should be even higher than that.

The Fighting Irish enter as a preseason top-five team and a three-touchdown favorite behind quarterback CJ Carr, while Wisconsin went 2-7 in Big Ten play a season ago under a Luke Fickell staff that now sits squarely on the hot seat.

Wisconsin gets a spirited home crowd in Green Bay and a defense that ranks among the better units the Irish will see all year, which is the only thing keeping this from being a lock.

Take Notre Dame to cover and win by more than three scores.

Pick: 49-10, ND

LSU over Clemson

Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin talking with Quarterback Husan Longstreet 8 at LSU Football practice.

LSU is a 77% favorite on Kalshi to beat Clemson in Lane Kiffin’s debut at Tiger Stadium, and the roster overhaul supports the number.

Quarterback Sam Leavitt, the nation’s top transfer portal addition, says he is fully recovered from the Lisfranc foot injury that ended his Arizona State season, and center Braelin Moore and left tackle Jordan Seaton anchor a retooled offensive line.

Clemson enters with either Christopher Vizzina or true freshman Tait Reynolds at quarterback and lower expectations than a year ago under Dabo Swinney. This feels like a little gamesmanship by Swinney. Vizzina has reportedly led this competition through spring and summer.

Take LSU to win and cover the number in a sold-out Death Valley.

Pick: 30-13, LSU

Michigan over Western Michigan

Wolverines head coach Kyle Whittingham waves at the crowd as he is being introduced on the floor.

Michigan is priced at 96% to beat Western Michigan at the Big House. This is Kyle Whittingham’s coaching debut and quarterback Bryce Underwood’s first live contact of the season after a fall camp in which the staff kept him fully protected from hits. Underwood is a sophomore now, and Whittingham has already said he is markedly further along than he was in the spring.

Western Michigan went 10-4 a year ago and brings a defense capable of forcing a mistake or two early.

Take Michigan to win comfortably, but fail to cover.

Pick: 33-14, Michigan

Oregon over Boise State

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning speaks during a press conference on Aug. 15, 2026, at the Hatfield-Dowlin Complex in Eugene,

Ducks head coach Dan Lanning speaks during a press conference.

Oregon is a 94% favorite over Boise State, and the Ducks have every reason to be, entering as a preseason top-two team behind quarterback Dante Moore with eight returning starters on a defense that allowed 273.7 yards per game a year ago.

Boise State makes its Pac-12 debut with senior quarterback Maddux Madsen and running back Dylan Riley, who rushed for 1,125 yards last season, giving the Broncos a puncher’s chance to make this respectable. Oregon should win by multiple scores at Autzen Stadium, but Boise State has covered spreads in this range against Power Four competition before.

Take Oregon to win, and to cover the big spread instead of the moneyline.

Pick: 41-7, Oregon
