USA TODAY Sports has released their projected final record for the Spartans this upcoming season and it won't be one that fans are happy about…

USA TODAY Sports has released their overall record predictions for every FBS team in the country, including Michigan State. The prediction came out to 4-8 overall, with a record in conference play of 2-7. That ranks as one of the worst teams in the Big Ten — only ahead of Purdue, who is predicted to go 0-9 in Big Ten play.

Michigan State enters the season with a wins over/under total of 4.5 and with most of the national media not expecting much from the Spartans under first year head coach Pat Fitzgerald. The local media, though, is higher on the Spartans with a number of columnists, reporters and insiders having them reach a bowl game this season. I personally have Michigan State going 6-6 overall and 4-5 in Big Ten play.

Michigan State last reached a bowl game in 2021, with four-straight losing seasons following. Fitzgerald and his staff will look to prove USA TODAY Sports wrong and get back to a bowl game for the first time in five years this fall.

The 2026 season officially kicks off for Michigan State on Friday against Toledo. Kickoff from Spartan Stadium is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.
