The Clemson football team kicks off its 2026 season against LSU on September 5. Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney is making a pun regarding LSU’s recent pursuit of former NFL players.
“I got to watch practice with the Browns in early June. I’m probably going to get turned in for tampering,” Swinney said, per ESPN.
At least one reporter thought that statement was great.

LSU was planning to welcome former Cleveland Browns player Dae’Quan Wright for the 2026 season. The SEC stepped in and stopped it. LSU head coach Lane Kiffin had defended the decision, and there is now a lawsuit pending.
Wright is practicing with the team, Kiffin said. It will take court action in order for him to play.
“Kiffin said in a news conference Monday he “could not predict” if any late additions to the team would play in the season opener Saturday against Clemson. A preliminary injunction hearing in the case will take place Thursday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Under SEC rules, LSU does not have to finalize its roster until Friday,” On3 reported.
The move to bring back an NFL player to the college ranks has caused quite a stir in college football. Swinney is not a fan of the concept of NFL players returning to college.
“It’s kind of embarrassing, Honestly, it’s embarrassing that’s where we are. I don’t blame the kids, but people trying to take advantage of the system. It’s embarrassing but we’ve been there for a while,” Swinney said, per ESPN.
Kiffin is in his first season at LSU. He took over the program from Brian Kelly, who had underachieved at the school. Kiffin joined LSU after coaching many years at Ole Miss.
