A few days ago, it was rumored that Christopher Vizzina would be the starting QB for Clemson in their season opener against LSU.
On Tuesday, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinneyconfirmed the rumors, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
The QB depth chart includes highly touted freshman Tait Reynolds, who is expected to get some starts later in the year. The other QBs include Trent Pearman, Brock Bradley, and Colson Brown.

Swinney made sure to clarify that Vizzina will start over Reynolds “this week”, per
Pete Nakos of On3Sports.
Vizzina, 21, is entering his senior season. Last year, he finished the year with 406 passing yards, 4 touchdowns, and a QB rating of 38.6. Meanwhile, the Tigers finished 7-6 overall and 4-4 in the ACC.
It was a disappointing season by program measures after they were ranked in the top 5 in preseason rankings. Player regressions, coaching shortcomings, adaptability issues, and roster issues led to an underperforming season for the Tigers.
In December 2025, Clemson lost to Penn State 22-10 in the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl.
Altogether, Vizzina has completed 64-of-105 passes for 596 passing yards thus far. His four touchdowns and one interception last year are his career totals.
In his first year in 2023, Vizzina redshirted and played in just one game. The following year, he appeared in seven games as a backup to Cade Klubnik. He completed 19 of 30 passes for 190 yards.
The two teams called the Tigers have played each other five times, dating back to 1958.
Their first matchup was in the 1958 Sugar Bowl, in which LSU won 7-0. In 2025, LSU won 17-10 at Memorial Stadium in South Carolina.
Currently, LSU leads 4-1. Clemson won only once, in the 2012 Chick-fil-A Bowl, 25-24.
