The Athletic released a poll voted on by some college football coaches on various questions heading into the 2026 season. LSU and USC made the headlines for the wrong reasons.
Who will win the National Title? Who will win the Heisman? Who is the biggest sleeper in the country? Are some of the questions surveyed of the coaches. Which team do you think is the biggest fraud and is getting overhyped? Is the question where LSU and USC come in.
LSU came in with a leading seven votes, and USC received four votes.

Lane Kiffin will debut as the Tigers’ head coach this weekend against Clemson, and even though the offense is led by Sam Leavitt, it seems coaches aren’t confident in what LSU will showcase in Kiffin’s first season. There are also a lot of distractions surrounding the team, as it has been like that all offseason.
“I think all these things that are happening around LSU right now are gonna end up being too much of a distraction.” —Mountain West head coach.
“LSU. I think it’ll be hard for them to build team chemistry. I could see them imploding.” — SEC defensive coordinator.
Wherever Kiffin goes, drama will follow. The Tigers may win a lot of games this season, but the SEC is stacked once again. As of now, they have five ranked games this season, as well as a meeting with unranked Clemson this weekend. Things could get ugly quickly, and opposing coaches are expecting it.
Let’s not forget about the USC Trojans. Lincoln Riley has yet to get over the hump in Southern California, but he does have his best QB since Caleb Williams with Jordan Maiava. Despite that, coaches think the Trojans are overhyped. Their Week 0 performance in the win over San Jose State may have showcased that already.
