Tracking all the college football experts’ national title picks

Week 1 of the college football season is set to start Thursday, Sept. 3, and there continue to be national title picks coming in from experts.
ESPN’s Chris Fowler appeared on Wednesday’s version of “First Take” and backed the Notre Dame Fighting Irish quite a bit.

He thinks the team is set up to win it all this year.
“They’re automatically in the bracket if they finish in the top 12. It would stun me if they weren’t in the top 12 at the end of the regular season. It would take at least two losses, I think, to knock them out of it. So then, what do you do once the bracket unfolds? That’s the reality. That’s what [Fernando] Mendoza could do last year. Yeah, they were the top seed, but they had to perform under pressure. If Notre Dame can do that, I think they’re well set up to win a championship,” Fowler said.
Fighting Irish popular pick to win it all
Other top ESPN college football commentators made their picks on Wednesday in a preseason roundtable.
Andrea Adelson, David Hale, Eli Lederman, Adam Rittenberg and Bill Connelly also have Notre Dame winning it all.
Meanwhile, Kyle Bonagura, Max Olson and Mark Schlabach have Ohio State taking college football’s biggest prize. Heather Dinich and Jake Trotter have Texas winning the national title, while Paolo Uggetti and Dave Wilson back Oregon.
Switching gears to Yahoo Sports, Ross Dellenger has Texas winning the national championship, while Nick Bromberg, Dan Wolken and Andy Backstrom all chose Oregon. Jay Busbee has Notre Dame.
To take it one step further, 41.9% of The Athletic’s college football staff predict Notre Dame will win the national title. Ohio State and Oregon are tied for second at 16.1%.
We’ll have to see how these predictions pan out once we get to the end of the season.
