Furman (1-0) will play its second football game during the 2026 football season on Saturday at No. 18 Tennessee. The Vols' season opener is slated for 3:30 p.m. EDT at Neyland Stadium (SEC Network+).
Furman, a member of the Southern Conference, is a FCS school located in Greenville, South Carolina. The Paladins are the winningest football program in the Southern Conference.
Throughout its football history, dating to 1891, two lettermen from Greenville, South Carolina have played at Tennessee, including J.B. Merritt and Joe Mills.
Merritt played at Tennessee from 1967-68 under head coach Doug Dickey. He played tight end, designated as an offensive end on Tennessee rosters. Merritt recorded one reception for 10 yards in 1967.
Joe Mills played for the Vols from 1973-74 under head coach Bill Battle. He was an offensive guard and appeared in 16 games at Tennessee. Mills had one kick return for 10 yards in 1974.
