Byrum Brown Sounds Ready to Unleash Alex Golesh's Offense at Auburn

Byrum Brown has spent the entire offseason getting more comfortable in Alex Golesh's offense. An offense he was already familiar with, being with him at South Florida, but now they are ready to unleash it into the SEC.

Now he's ready to actually run it.

The Auburn Tigers open the season against Baylor with plenty of questions offensively, especially along an offensive line that has been one of the biggest concerns surrounding this team.

But Brown doesn't seem too worried about it.

"I'm fully confident in our line and running backs, tight ends, seeing those looks and being prepared for it," Brown said.

And Baylor should give that group plenty to look at, something that wasn't really expected until Golesh spoke to the media to kick off game week. 

Golesh called Baylor's defensive front experienced, bigger and capable of creating problems as a pass-rushing unit. New defensive coordinator Joe Klanderman, who heads to Baylor following a 7-year stint with Kansas State, also brings the ability to move between different fronts and pressure looks.

"This will be a really big test week one out the gate," Golesh said.

It will be interesting from a fan standpoint if Klanderman's defensive tendencies appear or if Dave Aranda, the Bears head coach, still has his fingerprints all over it as he heads into the season fighting for his job security. 

Fortunately, Auburn has spent essentially the entire offseason preparing for it.

Brown pointed directly toward DJ Durkin's defense when asked about Baylor's multiplicity.

"They've thrown a lot of looks at us, and we've picked those up," Brown said.

Stanton Ramil has made a similar point throughout camp, saying Auburn isn't practicing against "one picture" every day. Durkin has given this offensive line pressures, shifting fronts and three-down looks to diagnose.

And the group appears to have gotten better because of it.

Brown said Auburn's offensive line has been on a "steady incline" since the beginning of camp and again said he believes the group will be equipped to handle whatever Baylor shows.

Having Cole Best beside him certainly helps.

"If I don't see something and switch it, he's going to switch it," Brown said. "So I mean he's got those guys rolling."

Of course, Brown's confidence isn't limited to his offensive line.

He sounds like a quarterback who has complete command of Golesh's offense.

"Extremely comfortable," Brown said. "Knowing the minute details of every single play, knowing where to go with the ball against certain looks, um, finding my check down regularly so that way we can stay on schedule and, you know, get first downs."

Baylor is going to present different looks. There will almost certainly be something Auburn hasn't seen on film with Klanderman coaching his first game for the Bears.

Brown and the rest of this offense knows that, but he's entering Week 1 with multiple years in Golesh's offense, a center he completely trusts, and an offensive line that has spent months getting tested by Auburn's own defense.

It's finally time to stop talking about if this players can translate from South Florida to Auburn and actually see it in action.
