Bold predictions for Week 1 of 2026 college football season

The 2026 college football season is finally here, and Week 1 is loaded with intriguing matchups and plenty of opportunities for bold predictions.

From potential Heisman contenders looking to make an immediate statement to young quarterbacks facing difficult tests, there are several players who could make a major impact right away.

Here are some of my boldest player predictions for three of the biggest games of Week 1.

Clemson vs. LSU

1. Jayce Brown over 75+ receiving yards

LSU will have a difficult time running the ball against a strong Clemson defensive line led by Will Heldt. This will force LSU and Sam Leavitt to put the ball in the air in short-yardage situations, which will create ample opportunity for Leavitt to target Jayce Brown.

2. Christopher Vizzina throws 2 interceptions

Although LSU is in a complete rebrand year, they still have the defensive talent of any normal LSU team. I do not expect Vizzina to look good at all in a very low-scoring game for both teams; I expect him to turn the ball over in his first meaningful start in his college career.

Boise State vs. Oregon

1. Dante Moore 275 pass yards, 4 total TDs

Dante Moore is going on a heavy Heisman campaign this year, and I fully expect the Ducks to play into it completely. In a season where they are coming in with high expectations, I expect Moore to deliver a show in his first outing of the 26’-27’ season.

2. Jamari Johnson 5 catches, 1 TD

Jamari Johnson put on a show in the College Football Playoffs last year and was tearing through defenses. I can see how this helped Moore see him as his “go-to” guy, as they are both developing into solid NFL products. Johnson’s big frame and athleticism will make him a threat on the field at all times.

Louisville vs. Ole Miss

1. Trinidad Chambliss 300 passing yards, 3 TDs

Ole Miss is going for a revenge season after nearly making the National Championship last season; their offense will be as explosive as ever, led by Trinidad Chambliss. This game will be a high-scoring shootout between two really solid offenses, and Chambliss will have to put on a show to beat a great Louisville team despite being favored.
