Alabama 2027 Class Breakdown: Crimson Tide have smaller group this cycle

It’s no longer a necessity that every college program takes a jam-packed high school recruiting class every year. Alabama is one of the high-profile teams that isn’t honed in on bringing a hefty haul to campus this time around.

As of Sept. 3, the Crimson Tide has the No. 33 class in the nation, according to the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. While the class size — just 14 total commits — plays a big part, Bama is still rather far down the list, also ranking just 13th in the SEC, ahead of only Vanderbilt, Arkansas and Mississippi State.

There’s just four blue-chippers committed to Bama and two of them are quarterbacks: Baton Rouge (La.) Dunham School five-star Elijah Haven, the nation’s No. 2 QB, and Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson four-star Trent Seaborn.

The latter joined the class first, pledging last October. Seaborn plays for one of the top high school programs in Alabama and his senior season is off to a scorching-hot start. He’s now the No. 22 QB in the cycle.

Haven was trending toward Alabama for a long time. After postponing his decision timeline on multiple occasions, the 6-foot-4.5, 220-pounder eventually locked in at the end of April. Haven, who threw 62 touchdowns as a junior, reminds Rivals’ Scouting and Rankings Team of Jacoby Brissett.

The month of June brought eight commitments for the Tide. The headliner was IMG Academy (Fla.) four-star wide receiver Osani Gayles, the No. 8 WR in the cycle. The California native chose the SEC over West Coast favorites like Stanford and Washington.

Gainesville (Ga.) four-star running back Nigel Newkirk, a top-20 prospect at the position, was a big addition on May 31. He and Irmo (S.C.) three-star Tai Phillips form one of the better RB duos in the nation.

There’s five in-state commits in the mix, headlined by Seaborn, Tuscaloosa Hillcrest three-star EDGE Jeremiah Beverly and Selma three-star WR Cedrick Simmons. All three are among the top 25 prospects in the Yellowhammer State.

Nine of the 14 commits are slated to play on the offensive side of the ball, leaving four for the defense and one for special teams. Below is an updated look at Alabama’s 2027 class with football season officially back this week:
