The No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs host the Tennessee State Tigers for the first time in school history. Tennessee State is a member of the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) and is 0-1 to start the 2026 college football.
Georgia is reportedly paying Tennessee State $600,000 for coming to Sanford Stadium for a one game series. Georgia has paid much more for inferior opponents to play at Sanford Stadium in the past. In 2024, Georgia paid $1.9 million to play UMass. Georgia is set to pay Western Kentucky $1.9 million the following week, so Tennessee State is a bargain compared to many other non-Power Four teams Georgia has played.
Georgia coach Kirby Smart is ready to watch the Bulldogs compete against another team. Smart showed a lot of respect to his opponent as usual.
"I enjoy watching them compete, go against each other," Smart said on Georgia in a press conference. "All the things they've done so far leaves me no doubt that they will go out and respond in game time situations."
Georgia fans will finally get to watch the 2026 version of Georgia take the field on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 3 p.m. ET.
