It's a "championship or bust" season for Oregon (-24.5), who looks to become the fourth consecutive different Big Ten team to win a national title. The Ducks host the reigning Mountain West champion and Pac-12 newcomer Boise State in their season opener today at 3:30 p.m. ET.

My favorite Boise State vs. Oregon prediction is that this game will be more boring than fans are hoping, and the nation will learn just how nasty the Ducks are on defense.

 TOP PICK
Boise State vs Oregon prediction today: Under 51.5

The Oregon Ducks are second in the AP Poll entering this season, which is their highest preseason ranking in school history. Led by senior QB Dante Moore, who could be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, Oregon usually has one of the best offenses in the country.

However, the market could be sleeping on Oregon's defense. According to ESPN's Bill Connelly, the Ducks are 11th nationally in returning defensive production and rank third in his defensive SP+ ratings

Furthermore, Oregon head coach Dan Lanning has a defensive background. Lanning was Georgia's defensive coordinator when it won the national championship in 2021.

While most of the public expects a high-octane Ducks offense to dictate things, I'm expecting their defense to put the clamps on the Boise State Broncos and power the Under.

Our Brad Powers makes the case for the other side in his college football predictions for Week 1.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Oregon has the second-highest team talent composite ranking this season, per 247Sports.com, featuring a defense with nine returning starters.

Boise State vs Oregon combo

Since this is their Super Bowl, I'm expecting the Broncos to slow down the tempo, limit possessions, and increase the variance, because that gives them their best chance to pull off an upset.

In fact, Boise State almost upset Oregon two years ago. The Ducks needed a walk-off, game-winning field goal to beat the Broncos, 37-34. Oregon was nowhere near covering as a massive -17.5 favorite in that contest.

The public will hammer the Ducks ATS because they are one of the most popular football programs in the nation. Granted, betting splits aren't gospel, but I'd rather fade the market than follow it.

Finally, my favorite prediction in this game is the Under, which correlates with the underdog since fewer points means a smaller chance the favorite wins by margin.
