A long and eventful offseason has finally come to a close, and it’s time for the No. 5 Texas Longhorns to take the field for the first time in the 2026 season against the Texas State Bobcats at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Saturday. This seems to be an all-in year for Texas, adding key pieces on both sides of the ball to address deficiencies on the 2025 roster, building around quarterback Arch Manning for what many assume will be his final year on campus.

The name that grabbed most of the attention was 6’3, former five-star wide receiver Cam Coleman coming over from Auburn to step in as WR1 in Austin, giving Manning a truly elite target. Despite inconsistent quarterback play with the Tigers, Coleman racked up more than 1,300 yards and 13 touchdowns over two seasons and entered the transfer portal as the second-ranked player. Coleman lit up social media during the preseason with highlight-reel catches, proving why he was a priority for every staff in the country.

Texas bolstered more than the wide receiver room, adding a pair of elite and complementary running backs in Hollywood Smothers and Raleek Brown, and filled holes on the offensive line with left guard Laurence Seymore and right tackle Melvin Siani to round out the offensive facelift.

But perhaps the most consequential addition of the offseason, especially given the preseason attrition, is the addition of two-time All-ACC linebacker Rasheem Biles. Coming off of a 100-tackle season, Biles was already slated to be an instant contributor in the room, but with Steve Sarkisian and the coaching staff dismissing returning starter Ty’Anthony Smith from the squad, Biles’s potential contributions become all the more needed.

Unlike last year, the Longhorns get a week to tune things up before their marquee matchup against Ohio State. GJ Kinne, the former Texas quarterback, brings to town one of the most dynamic playmakers in the Group of Six with quarterback Brad Jackson, hoping that his changes on the defensive side of the ball will match their offensive potential.
