Can Kansas State's Collin Klein Make Biggest Adjustment Of Becoming Head Coach?

One of the biggest adjustments for college football coach is learning to delegate responsibilities.

That's what Kansas State Wildcats coach Collin Klein is dealing with in his first season in Manhattan. After serving as a position coach and coordinator at the start of his coaching career, he now moves into the CEO portion.

Klein has to alleviate some of the pressures on himself to allow his assistants to handle their responsibilities. He spoke about the challenges in preparation for Saturday's season opener against Nicholls at Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan.

"The good part about that is with the way practices have been structured and the way that my whole life as a playcaller and then even as a coach," Klein said. "Because you're right there on the field, because I've played and been out there on the field, I've had to reorganize my notes a little bit, I can't have this nice little area where you can write stuff down and do all that."

Klein spent the last two seasons as the offensive coordinator for the Texas A & M Aggies. Before that, he held the same job with the Wildcats. He was also a position coach.

The positive for him is he was able to learn under legendary K-State coach Bill Snyder and later as a staff member for ex-coach Chris Klieman. Klein has repeatedly said he learned from both of them over the years.

So it appears he is more than prepared for this challenge. It could be the difference in the Wildcats being a middle-tier team in the Big 12, as they were projected by the conference media, and earning a berth in the College Football Playoff.

Because of the circumstances, the Wildcats are considered one of the sleepers in college football. Many odds makers like the favorable schedule because they Wildcats do not play the BYU Cougars, Texas Tech Red Raiders and Utah Utes, who are considered the top three teams in the Big 12.
