Late Thursday football: Paynesville Bulldogs score early, often to beat KMS Fighting Saints

Sep. 4—MURDOCK — The Paynesville football team got going in a hurry in the season opener.

The Bulldogs put up 21 points in the first quarter en route to a 41-0 victory over Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg on Thursday.

Quarterback Mason Hansen had three touchdowns for the Bulldogs. He ran for scores of 32 and seven yards. He also completed a 23-yard TD pass to Elias Vig. Hansen completed 11 of 20 passes for 184 yards. He also ran for 63 yards on eight carries.

Vig had 103 yards on five carries. That included a 54-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.

Jaylen Harrell had two interceptions for Paynesville, including one he took to the end zone on an 80-yard return.

Paynesville hosts Kimball at 7 p.m. Friday. KMS faces Redwood Valley at 7 p.m. Friday at Redwood Falls.

Miles Wildman rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries in Minnewaska's victory over Morris/Chokio-Alberta at Big Cat Stadium in Morris.

Minnewaska plays Osakis at 7 p.m. Friday in Glenwood.

Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City couldn't slow down Eden Valley-Watkins at Eden Valley.

Brody Straumann rushed for 184 yard and also had eight solo and eight assisted tackles for SCGC.

ACGC faces St. Cloud Cathedral at 7 p.m. Friday at Clemens Stadium in Collegeville.

Melrose built up a 53-0 halftime lead to defeat Montevideo at Melrose.

Montevideo hosts Morris/Chokio-Alberta at 7 p.m. Friday.

Russell-Tyler-Ruthton rushed for 313 yards to beat Yellow Medicine East at Tyler.

YME plays Dawson-Boyd at 7 p.m. Friday at Volstead Field in Granite Falls.
