Florida opens the 2026 college football season against the Florida Atlantic Owls on Saturday at 7:45 p.m. ET at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville.

It's the first game of the Jon Sumrall era for the Gators, and the Gators enter as heavy favorites against the 11th-place team in the 2025 American Athletic Conference rankings. Despite the difference in talent, Sumrall and Co. are not taking their opponent lightly, especially after playing against the Owls last year. FAU has an explosive offense with a veteran quarterback in Caden Veltkamp.

Florida defensive coordinator Brad White and his 3-4 scheme will be put to the test against a team that likes to pass the ball, while offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner will see his versatile offense in game action for the first time.

Aaron Philo beat out Tramell Jones Jr. for the starting quarterback role, and he'll have plenty of weapons to lean on in his first start at Florida. Running back Jadan Baugh and a trio of talented wide receivers — Vernell Brown III, Eric Singleton Jr. and Dallas Wilson — should lead the offense.
