Tennessee State football will face its third SEC opponent of all-time when the Tigers (0-1) travel to Sanford Stadium to play No. 3 Georgia on Sept. 5 in the Bulldogs' season opener.
Kickoff is 2 p.m. CT, and the game will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
TSU is 0-4 vs. SEC opponents (Vanderbilt 0-3) and Mississippi State (0-1).
The Tigers are in their second season under coach Reggie Barlow. They opened the 2026 season on Aug. 29 with a 26-24 loss to Jackson State in the John Merritt Classic at Vanderbilt's FirstBank Stadium.
Georgia, coming off a 12-2 season and a berth in the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoffs, features returning starting quarterback Gunner Stockton, who finished seventh in Heisman voting.
Stockton threw for 2,894 yards with 24 touchdowns and only five interceptions in 2025. The Bulldogs lost some of their key receivers, so the Bulldogs are expected to try to establish a run game early behind a formidable offensive line. That could be bad news for TSU.
While the Tigers played well against Jackson State, especially on offense, they gave up 180 rushing yards. Georgia was fourth in the SEC in rushing in 2025 with an average of 181.2 yards per game.
TSU also did not force any turnovers against Jackson State and allowed the Tigers to convert six first downs on 13 third downs.
