Curt Cignetti comment should concern Indiana football fans

Saturday will be a celebration for the Indiana football program and its fans.

Indiana is coming off its first college football national title in school history and will honor that team before Saturday’s game against North Texas.

After the celebration, Indiana will start its quest to repeat as national champs, but head coach Curt Cignetti isn’t assuming anything. He made a rather interesting comment during a segment on ESPN’s College GameDay.

“I’d like to think we’re good and okay, but I don’t really know,” Cignetti said.

Any concern for Indiana fans?

It’s not the biggest vote of confidence going into a new season and should make some fans a little nervous, but there’s also a decent chance he’s just playing mind games with everyone.

At the same time, Indiana lost some quality players to the NFL, including star quarterback Fernando Mendoza. Mendoza won the Heisman Trophy last season and did an excellent job leading the program to its first college football national title. It’s now on Josh Hoover to take up the mantle for this season.

Saturday’s season-opener

Saturday’s game against North Texas should be a walk in the park for the Hoosiers. Not only are they celebrating their championship, but they are 40.5 favorites to beat the Mean Green.

Their title defense should get off to a good start before they play some of their Big Ten foes later in the season.

Kickoff for the contest will be at noon ET on FOX.
