The Florida Gators started their era under head coach Jon Sumrall with a banger of a touchdown during their season opener against the FAU Owls on Saturday night.
Sumrall is starting the fifth year of his head coaching career, his first with the Gators. He enjoyed a remarkable two-year stint with the Tulane Green Wave, leading them to the College Football Playoff in 2025.
Florida hired Sumrall with the goal of returning to serious heights after underwhelming campaigns in past years. Having seen his immense success at Tulane, they believed his style was the right path forward.

Cue in their season opener against FAU, going through its second year under head coach Zach Kittley. They needed to make a statement to excite the Gator faithful.
And that they did. Midway through the first quarter, quarterback Aaron Philo found receiver Vernell Brown Jr., who ran past multiple defenders to get to the end zone for the 49-yard touchdown.
